England is our home country. We live in Somerset and have since birth, but Cornwall is truly where our hearts are. If you’re travelling to England, take a trip down south and visit the Cornish coast.
It was my birthday last month, so Jack took me back to Cornwall for a few days. Our favourite place is a little town called Newquay and its surrounding area. We stayed in a bay called Mawgan Porth, at a B&B called ‘Seavista’. The owner is vegan herself so caters very well for vegans! Our room had a lovely view overlooking the beach, and she would bring us little treats to our room. They have a very good selection of milks like soya, rice, almond, and coconut and many choices for breakfast! We couldn’t resist the vegan full English!
Our favourite place to eat is Lusty Glaze Restaurant, which is in Newquay. Its a hidden spot but well worth the many steps! They have a good selection of vegan food and the staff are so helpful and lovely. We also visited The Scarlet Hotel, on Mawgan Porth, and they gave us a vegan menu to choose from. There is also a lovely Thai restaurant near Newquay train station, with vegan options. For these restaurants, I’d advise booking as they get very busy and advise of your dietary requirements. There are several vegetarian/vegan cafes around Newquay, and Cornwall now has its own vegan festival!
Hiring a car to travel around Cornwall would be good, as you can explore the many long beaches and secluded coves! There are so many beautiful places to see! My favourites are Sennen, Perranporth, Porthcurno, Lands End and Watergate bay. A lot of these places are dog friendly year round and are perfect for endless walks, either along the beach or on the coastal paths.
I live in England too. And I have never been to Cornwall yet, although I so want to! They say there are like thousands of pre-historic sites, stone circles and the like there. The only problem of course is that dear Mrs Thatcher destroyed all train connection there. It is too far by car (I live in the North-West) and out of all my friends only two ever went to Cornwall: one because her Mother lived there, and the other was as brave as catching an overnight coach from London.
On a different note, Lucie and Jack, why would you note explain to our elsewhere-located friends the wonder that is “the full English” (and its many possible vegan interpretations)? Or does everyone know nowadays?
That image of the Cornish coast is stunning! Thank you for sharing some of your favorite sights and eats from the area.
