Throwing it back to just over a week ago when I FINALLY found one of the airport puppies at LAX. This is molly, she’s here to help you destress 🙂

I’ve had an amazing few days in Bogotá!!!! Can’t wait to share everything I did… here are a few (maybe sideways, they’re from my phone) pics to tide you over. Currently waiting in the airport to board my first flight of the loooooooooong journey home.

Also, I have about 5 or 6 hours to kill in LA next Tuesday… anyone have suggestions for places close-ish to the airport? Worst case I go hang out on the beach for a few hours 😉
-
Venice Beach is about a 15-minute Uber drive. It has a cool pedestrian boardwalk and a ton of vegan friendly options (on and nearby the beach). Btw: if you happen to be landing or taking off in a nearby terminal, there is also a Real Food Daily in Terminal 4 of LAX – it’s not great, but it is all vegan.
-
I’ve heard good things about Stuff I Eat, and Equelecua Cuban Cafe (both are about 20 minutes from the airport by car). There are some really good spots at Venice Beach like The Butcher’s Daughter, Fala Bar, and Blue Star Donuts. Plus you can enjoy the water over there!
-
I love Venice beach!! I think that’s my back up plan if my uncle doesn’t make it in to see me. It’s been forever since Ive been there in the middle of the day… I always end up there at night somehow

Bogota on Friday!! Crazy travel to get there, but looking forward to it!! (And by crazy I mean about 30 hours and 5 flights, lol)
-
Why so many flights? I would have guessed that you could have connected to Bogota from Vancouver via Miami.
-
I booked it as two separate tickets to get a good deal. And the first three are all pretty short (BLI-SEA-PDX-LAX), then its round trip from LAX via MIA.
And there are no direct flight from YVR to MIA… you can go through DFW… or LAX… maybe JFK…

torn between places to stay in Bogota… either an okay place closer to downtown and looks like lots of restaurant/food options close by… or an eco/sustainable hotel a little further away and double the price, but looks fabulous…. leaning towards the eco hotel, but don\’t want to spend all day going back and forth across the city…

This is the eco hotel -
this is the other hotel

How long are you in Bogota for? Is it reasonable to split your time so you get some of the benefits/experiences of both? I know it’s nice to just settle in wherever you’re staying for the duration of a trip, but maybe even one night at the eco hotel would be a nice treat for yourself 🙂
-
I was thinking of doing that… I’m only there for 3 nights, and arrive super late the first night… maybe I do all the “touristy” stuff the first day and a half and then enjoy the eco hotel on the last night? so many choices!

Okay, so looking for suggestions in Fukuoka, Kyoto, and Tokyo for places, or neighbourhoods, to stay in. I think we will just be in Fukuoka for one night (we fly in to there), then head to Kyoto for a few days (day trip to Osaka?), then do our walk to Tokyo (not the whole way, there are trains involved), then we fly to HK for a few days… All…[Read more]

We haven’t been to Fukuoka, but both Kyoto and Tokyo have excellent mass transportation systems so wherever you stay, it is really easy to get around. Especially if you use the Google Maps app (you can pre-download maps for each city so need to worry about coverage or roaming charges). I am not familiar with all the neighborhoods, but during our…[Read more]

one more suggestion … purchasing your JR Pass (for all inter-city and some local trains) is much cheaper abroad than it is if you have to purchase it in Japan. Enjoy your trip.

We actually got rail passes with out hiking tour, so we just asked them to add on an extra week for us 🙂

Get a travel credit card… for the insurance! Usually travel credit cards come with an annual fee (sometimes waived the first year), but they can be really helpful if you get stuck somewhere. Be sure you understand the rules (if you have to put the whole flight on the card, or if you can split it, how long the delay has to be, etc) but the…[Read more]

@jenns Definitely good travel advice. Such a great idea especially if you can get the first year waved. We have an American Express with insurance as well. Haven’t had to use it yet but it will come in handy one day. 🙂
