In serious consideration of travelling to the USA, but would be alone and on a modest budget. Can’t do dorm rooms in hostels or couch-surfing because I do far better with private accommodation but would still like to meet people in the area. From anyone who’s done this sort of thing before tips and suggestions are very welcome!
Whereabouts are you thinking of visiting in the US? Anywhere specifically?
I’d like to visit New York and Toronto (yeah I know it’s in Canada) again, and also try places in French Canada such as Quebec and Montreal. I’d also like to visit Seattle, San Francisco and LA, because a uni friend is originally from there and invited me to stay but unfortunately is not vegan so I’d have concerns that I’d be seen as being awkward :/ otherwise I’d love to take up the offer…
Those are great places to visit! I loved NYC when I traveled there last year and LA is really cool too. I would definitely keep that friend in mind even if they aren’t vegan because it can be nice to have someone who you know when you’re in an unfamiliar place. Plus sometimes staying with them is a good way to introduce them to some vegan foods 🙂
I’ve heard of AirBnB but not sure if it’s like a house swap where the other person would also be staying at your place. Will look into it more!
I’d personally be too worried having someone stay at my place without me there but I admire those who can do that sort of thing 🙂 Airbnb is looking increasingly appealing, plenty of private rooms which I’d actually prefer to having the place to myself simply because the responsibility of looking after someone’s entire home is a bit scary. Will just try and find a room in the home of someone who looks friendly!
