Thailand is one of the best places to eat vegan and cheap food, and Bangkok offers a huge variety of choices for every taste; this is my personal guide of the best vegan food in the city.
Chamlong restaurant, just outside Chatuchak Market
In my opinion this is the best place to eat vegan in Bangkok: it has different stalls and also vegan shop. You may read that this is a vegetarian place, but when I ate there everything was vegan; keep in mind that in Thailand many people use the word “vegetarian” for vegan, just ask to be sure but you’ll have no issues.
It’s located just in front of the Chatuchak market and it’s run by the Vegetarian Foundation.
You can eat tons of food for a really cheap price! The funny think is that you don’t pay with money, you’ll have to change your cash for tickets at the entrance… but don’t worry, if you don’t use all your tickets they will exchange them back to you.
When I was there it was open only in the morning from 9am to 14 pm aprox., so please check updated opening hours on Happy Cow
How to get there
Skytrain: take the Mo Chit exit, from here you can walk past the market and get to the restaurant, or take the underground and stop at Kampaeng Phet.
Underground: stop at Kampaeng Phet and take exit number one.
Vegan stalls at the Hindu Temple in Bangkok
In the streets on the back entrance of the Hindu Temple in Bangkok you will see some stalls that cook vegan food: you will find rice, vegetables and a huge selection of mock meat.
When I was there I was the only foreigner, this is a place really appreciated by locals as it is super good and super cheap. I suggest you also buy some food to take away and eat at home as you cannot try everything in a single meal ????
How to get there
I suggest you take the Skytrain and stop at Surasak, but you could also take the boat and stop at the “Oriental” pier.
Vegan food at Wat Intharawihan
I strongly recommend a visit to Wat Intharawihan not only because here you can can see one of the tallest standing Buddha in Thailand, but also for its two stalls that sell fried tofu with nuts, sweet syrup, erbs and chili… I usually don’t like tofu so much, but I could eat tons of this one, I can’t wait to go back to Bangkok to eat it again!
How to get there
You can easily reach the temple with public transportation taking the boat and stop at Rama VIII pier, or you can walk there from many other attractions in there area, like the Democracy Monument or Khao San Road.
Need a map to get to these places?
just check it out here
With so many amazing vegan restaurants in Bangkok, it would be so hard for me to pick a top 3 🙂
