I was looking through our hard drive trying to find some photos of Thailand and came across this one.
It was one of the hardest days we have had while travelling. We heard rumours of a zoo on the top two floors of a department store in Bangkok. We decided to visit to get photos and footage so that we could expose the horrible conditions that these beautiful animals were living in. The conditions were appalling.
When we finally came to this little guy, Giselle couldn’t take it anymore and had to leave. Living on a concrete floor, with his mother, there were no swings, greenery, or any hint of even an artificial natural habitat. We shot a video of our time there and took photographs of the conditions of all the animals (Bears, Monkeys, Jaguars, Asiatic Wolves etc….)
This is the one photo that always breaks my heart.
Absolutely heartbreaking. What happened with the images and footage you took to try and expose this?
Hey @jaclynmiller, we wrote a blog about our time at Pata Zoo and created a video about this horrible place.
Here is the link to our post http://mindfulwanderlust.com/pata-zoo/
Thank you for sharing @codyk
So heartbreaking. It looks like this happened right after you guys were there: http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/gorilla-gains-freedom-high-rise-thai-zoo-after-nearly-three-decades-captivity-1491949 I can’t believe that place existed for so long! Does anybody know what ended up happening to the relocated animals?
@poniesunicorns Unfortunately none of the animals have been relocated. The article below was released four days after the one you posted. It’s not that easy to shut down a zoo in a foreign country, especially when the owner thinks he is doing nothing wrong at all. All he needs is a handful of Thai baht to make officials leave him alone.

Ugh. So sad!
